This sunny and warm final weekend of June in Los Angeles is brimming with special events you won’t want to miss. After a five-year hiatus, Friday night wine tasting events are back at the Barnsdall Art Park West Lawn. A $45 ticket gets you a flight of wine curated by Silverlake Wine, plus access to a rotation of food trucks, all supported by tunes from local DJs and sweet sunset views of the Hollywood Sign and Griffith Park Observatory. The series continues every Friday through August 30. On Saturday, June 29, 2024, at 8:00 PM, head to the Hollywood Bowl for the Roots Picnic: ‘Hip-Hop Is the Love of My Life,’ a centerpiece of the BET Fan Fest. Questlove and The Roots will be hosting a “picnic” at L.A.’s favorite summer venue, bringing along talented friends like Queen Latifah, Common, Digable Planets, Arrested Development, The Pharcyde, and Black Sheep. Also on Saturday, from 8:00 PM to 10:00 PM, check out the ‘Dear Long Beach’ Film Series at Long Beach Community Media Arts at Place LB. This event brings together four diverse emerging filmmakers who created a series of personal Super 8 diary/essay films focused on Long Beach, CA. Celebrate the completion of this project with a free public film screening in the Wrigley neighborhood of Long Beach. And that’s not all—there are plenty more events and something special for everyone inside the post!

One of L.A.’s best free live music offerings, Jazz at LACMA has featured legit legends over its three-decade run at the museum. Seating for the program is available in the museum’s plaza on a first-come, first-served basis, though you’re welcome to picnic on the grass, too (you won’t really be able to see the show, but you’ll still hear it). You’ll find the series on Friday evenings in LACMA’s welcome plaza (just behind Urban Light) throughout the summer.

Dear Long Beach: Diary Films Commissioned by LBCMA, brings together four diverse emerging filmmakers to create a series of personal Super 8 diary/essay films focused on the city of Long Beach, CA. Through the intimate lens of Super 8 film (a small gauge film format created for amateur filmmakers) each film will offer a unique perspective on life in the city, exploring themes of identity, community, culture, and individual experiences. We’re celebrating the completion of the project with a free public film screening will be held at PLACE LB, located in the Wrigley neighborhood of Long Beach, CA. Free event!

‘How to Bird’ Storywalk
June 27, 2024 through June 30, 2024 from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM
Audubon Center at Debs Park
Kids author Rasha Hamid is out to teach the love of birding and the calmness it can bring to young and old alike. At this walk, hosted by the L.A. Public Library, Hamid’s book How to Bird will serve as a map for a self-guided nature exploration for kids (and adults) of all ages.

This two-day, all-ages, free festival hosted at the Santa Monica Pier features ocean sports competitions, interactive games, a beer garden and plenty of live music on both days. Gay Men’s Chorus of LA: ‘Solid Gold: Aretha, Dionne and Whitney’

GMCLA’s Pride concert and gala celebrates three of the most legendary and iconic artists in music history as the 200-member Chorus performs 25 timeless hits by the Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin, music legend and HIV/AIDS activist Dionne Warwick, and the undisputed voice of a generation Whitney Houston. Songs like “Respect,” “Freeway of Love,” “Chain of Fools,” “I Say a Little Prayer for You,” “I Will Always Love You,” “The Greatest Love of All,” and “I Wanna Dance with Somebody” have been the soundtrack of our lives. The show will also feature six dance production numbers and an unforgettable three-song medley with Priyanka and Latrice Royale, stars of Drag Race and HBO’s groundbreaking series We’re Here.
