Final Bow for Gustavo Dudamel Headlines Hollywood Bowl’s Expansive 2026 Season

The 2026 summer season at the Hollywood Bowl arrives with both celebration and transition at its core. Anchoring the lineup is a week in August honoring Gustavo Dudamel in his 17th and final season as Music and Artistic Director of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, alongside a roster that stretches confidently across classical, jazz, hip-hop, pop, rock, film music and fireworks spectacles.

The season officially opens June 20 with “The Best of Broadway,” a curtain-raising evening devoted to musical theater’s most enduring songs. From there, the Bowl’s famously eclectic programming accelerates into a three-month survey of global sound.

Celebrating Gustavo

A focal point of the summer will be “Celebrating Gustavo at the Bowl,” culminating August 22 when Dudamel shares the stage with the Foo Fighters in a joint concert that underscores his genre-expansive tenure. Over nearly two decades, Dudamel has redefined what a major American orchestra can do in an outdoor amphitheater, moving fluidly between canonical symphonies and collaborations with artists far outside the traditional classical sphere. This August tribute reflects that breadth, spotlighting some of his favorite collaborators and the stylistic range that has marked his leadership.

Jazz, Hip-Hop and American Song

Jazz programming launches in a major way June 13 and 14 with the Blue Note Jazz Festival, hosted by Arsenio Hall and featuring artists including Patti LaBelle, Wyclef Jean, Robert Glasper, Samara Joy and Gregory Porter. Later in the season, Wynton Marsalis brings Jazz at Lincoln Center to the Bowl, and Herbie Hancock honors the centennial of Miles Davis with a commemorative program in August.

Juneteenth has become a meaningful fixture in Bowl programming, and this year Chance the Rapper leads the celebration. Hip-hop continues to command the stage as The Roots return for the third annual west coast edition of their Roots Picnic, titled “A Roots Picnic Experience: Great Night in Hip-Hop.”

Pop, Rock and Legacy Acts

The 2026 season leans heavily into multigenerational appeal. OneRepublic will headline the September Fireworks Finale, while Jon Batiste closes out Bowl-produced programming on September 27. St. Vincent takes a symphonic turn in a performance with the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra.

Independence Day traditions return with the “July Fourth Fireworks Spectacular” featuring The Beach Boys alongside the Bowl Orchestra for three nights. Additional double bills and co-headlining evenings include ZZ Top with Cheap Trick; Smokey Robinson with Gladys Knight; Ziggy Marley with Burning Spear; Squeeze with Adam Ant and The English Beat; Bob Moses with Cannons; and Blues Traveler with Gin Blossoms and Spin Doctors. Soul icon Al Green also joins the summer slate.

Two nonagenarian legends who continue to perform with formidable energy will make appearances: Herb Alpert brings his revived Tijuana Brass to the Bowl following sold-out shows at Dolby Theatre, and blues titan Buddy Guy returns amid renewed acclaim.

Film Music Under the Stars

The Bowl’s giant screen remains central to the summer experience. “Music from the Films of Wes Anderson” takes over for three July nights, followed by a tribute to Joe Hisaishi, long associated with Studio Ghibli. John Williams returns for his customary September concerts.

Full live-to-picture presentations include Amadeus, How to Train Your Dragon and Top Gun: Maverick, while the audience becomes part of the orchestra during the annual sing-along screening of The Sound of Music.

Beyond LA Phil Programming

As in past seasons, the LA Phil’s announcement does not encompass concerts produced exclusively by Live Nation-Hewitt Silva. Already announced third-party events include performances by Paul Simon, Rod Stewart, My Chemical Romance, Andrea Bocelli, Jack Johnson, Pitbull, Lewis Capaldi, Bright Eyes, The Human League, John Mellencamp, Santana, The Doobie Brothers, The Black Crowes, Tedeschi Trucks Band and Mac DeMarco, along with a staging of “The Last Five Years” starring Ben Platt and Rachel Zegler, plus several Netflix Is a Joke events featuring Shane Gillis, John Mulaney, FEID and Marcello Hernández.

Tickets and Season Outlook

Individual tickets for the 2026 Hollywood Bowl summer season go on sale to the general public May 5. Taken together, the lineup reflects the Bowl’s dual identity as both civic institution and cultural crossroads, culminating in a valedictory moment for Dudamel that promises to be as expansive and unexpected as his tenure itself.

Hope to see you all at the Bowl this summer!
