Whether you’re a culture buff, casual art lover, or just looking for a fun, laid-back Saturday night out, this free event has it all—plus a little surprise around every corner. Bring your friends, grab a craft beer, and explore one of LA’s most unique neighborhoods while discovering fresh art, music, and performances in true Frogtown style.

A Vibrant Tradition in Frogtown

Frogtown, nestled between the LA River and the 5 Freeway, has become a cultural gem in recent years. Historically an industrial zone and home to working-class families, Frogtown’s evolution mirrors the broader growth of LA’s creative communities. Its name is a nod to the days when the LA River was teeming with frogs, a quirky reminder of its pre-urbanized days. Today, Frogtown’s relaxed vibe attracts artists, creatives, and nature lovers, all drawn by the picturesque river path and affordable spaces.

Since its inception in 2006, the Frogtown Artwalk has grown from a local meet-and-greet to a major biennial event, offering a unique glimpse into the neighborhood’s eclectic art scene. What started as a grassroots effort by local business owners and artists to introduce neighbors to each other has blossomed into a community-wide celebration that now draws thousands from across the city.

What to Expect This Year

The 2024 Frogtown Artwalk promises even more excitement with a blend of returning favorites and new surprises. Stroll or bike along the LA River to experience over 50 artists showcasing their work through pop-up exhibits and open studios. Whether you’re a seasoned art enthusiast or just looking for a fun Saturday night, you’ll find something inspiring at every turn.

This year’s highlights include:

  • Live Performances on the Taylor Yard Bridge: Don’t miss the Aztec Dance Troupe “Xipe Totec” blessing the event with mesmerizing traditional dances at 6 p.m., followed by a live music performance by Magmatic at 6:45 p.m.
  • Spoke Bicycle Café and Frogtown Brewery: Swing by for live music, DJ sets, and some of Frogtown’s best craft brews.
  • Poetry & Spoken Word Salon: Head to the Literary Lounge curated by Mike “the Poet” Sonksen at Blake Avenue Lofts, where local poets and friends will honor the late Lewis MacAdams, a beloved advocate for the LA River.
  • Marketplace at 1st Impression Dance Studio: Peruse handcrafted goods, vintage clothing, and décor, all while supporting local artisans.
  • Van-Gerine Ice Cream Float Debut: Satisfy your sweet tooth at Happier Café with this exclusive collaboration between TIZZ and Van Leeuwen Ice Cream.

And let’s not forget the hula hoop contest and dance party hosted by DJ duo LoveyDove, a beer garden by Frogtown Brewery, and food trucks galore. You can even adopt a kitten at Salazar Restaurant, thanks to Luxe Paws. There’s truly something for everyone.
