CicLAvia South LA: 5-Miles of Open Streets Along Western Ave Between Exposition & Century Blvds

Hey there, LA! Get ready to leave your cars behind and embrace the freedom of open streets at CicLAvia’s 53rd event! CicLAvia is taking over five glorious miles of Western Avenue on Sunday, June 23; between 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. transforming it into a car-free paradise where you can jog, walk, skate, scooter, and bike to your heart’s content. This is your chance to explore neighborhoods like Vermont Square, Harvard Park, Chesterfield Square, Exposition Park, and King Estates in a whole new way. ‍♀️‍♀️

This isn’t just a street closure—it’s a pop-up park experience loaded with activities, food, street games, local businesses, and vibrant cultural happenings for all ages. And the best part? It’s absolutely free! Just show up anywhere along the route and cycle into the fun.

What to Expect?

CicLAvia – South LA features four main Hubs that are buzzing with activities and programs. Think of them as your pit stops along the route, complete with mandatory bike dismounts for some relaxed strolling. Here’s a sneak peek:

  • Exposition Hub: Your starting point with loads of excitement.
  • Western Hub: Discover The South Los Angeles Eco-Lab and learn about climate action and economic development.
  • Florence Hub: Another hotspot filled with fun.
  • Century Hub: Round off your journey with even more activities.

Each Hub offers family-friendly fun, restrooms, free water refills, basic bike repairs, bike parking, and first aid. Plus, you can catch a free pedicab ride at any info booth. Use the CicLAvia digital map to plan your adventure and check out local businesses and activities along the way.

Why South LA?

“South LA is always one of the highlights of CicLAvia’s schedule,” says CicLAvia Executive Director Romel Pascual. On Western Ave, you’ll experience the dynamic culture of LA through its local businesses, restaurants, cultural spots, and public art. It’s a reminder of what makes our city so unique and special.

Inspired by Bogotá’s weekly ciclovía, CicLAvia has been opening LA’s streets to car-free adventures since 2010. These events connect us to the neighborhoods where we live, work, and play, promoting a greener and cleaner Los Angeles.

A Few Quick Rules:

  • People-powered vehicles only. No electric scooters, electric skateboards, hoverboards, electric unicycles, or motorcycles.
  • E-bikes: Class 1 pedal-assist allowed; Class 2 must have the throttle powered off; Class 3 must have pedal-assist powered off. Motorized wheelchairs are welcome.
