Mid-Century Modern Kawaguchi House in Silver Lake

This spectacular and stunning mid-century modern home is located in a serene hillside location in Silver Lake, just a stone’s throw from the Reservoir and shops and restaurants along Silver Lake Boulevard.

3022 Windsor Avenue
Los Angeles, CA 90039

Asking Price: $1,995,000 | 3 Bedrooms | 2 baths | 1,718 square feet | 3,666 sq. ft. lot | Built in 1956 by Eugene K. Choi

The Kawaguchi House, as it has come to be known, is a 1956 masterwork by noted architect Eugene Kinn Choy.

The stellar post-and-beam design and walls of glass compliments many original details including the narrow-ribbed wood paneling and the gas fireplace with a floating concrete hearth.

The open living and dining rooms connect seamlessly to the rear deck which offers breathtaking hillside views.

Born in Guangzhou, China, in 1912, Eugene Kinn Choy immigrated to Southern California with his family as a child. A 1939 graduate of USC’s School of Architecture, Choy established his own firm in 1947 and was the second Chinese American, after I.M. Pei, to join the American Institute of Architects. In the late 1940s, after the U.S. Supreme Court ruled the enforcement of racial housing covenants unconstitutional, Choy became one of the first Asian American residents of Silver Lake.

The lovely open kitchen has been outfitted with high-end appliances. The home was originally a single story residence but was revamped in 2008 by architect and interior designer Thomas Michna, who updated the kitchen and baths and added the second story master suite.

The incredible master suite features an entire wall of closet space, treetop views, and plenty of space.

The en suite bath is absolutely luxurious with two sinks, two vanities, a soaking tub, skylight, and a gigantic walk-in shower.

There are two additional bedroom, each with outdoor access and ample closet space.

The second bath is chic and stylish, outfitted with a beautifully hued blue tile.

The home’s third bedroom would make an excellent office space, or family den.

The spacious deck space provides plenty of room for lounging or entertaining. The hillside views are marvelous.

The property’s large lot contains plenty of options for al fresco dining and feels intimately private and secluded from the nearest neighbor.

This meticulously maintained residence also has a garage, laundry room, bonus storage and discreet solar panels providing significant energy savings.

3022 Windsor Avenue is on Silver Lake’s Primrose Hill, just moments from the Reservoir and nearby shopping at Trader Joe’s, Gelson’s, Whole Foods 365, plus a short distance to coffee shop LA Mill and fine dining at Alimento and L&E Oyster Bar and the soon-to-reopen Satellite.

The mid-century modern marvel is an architectural achievement not to be missed.
