Marie Russak was a pioneering figure in the early 20th century, known for her unique blend of talents as an opera singer and architect. She was born in Russia in 1888 and began her career as a singer, studying at the St. Petersburg Conservatory and making her debut at the Mariinsky Theatre in 1913. She quickly gained fame for her powerful soprano voice and performed in opera houses throughout Europe. In addition to her career as a singer, she studied architecture at the prestigious École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, where she honed her skills in design and construction.  Her unique combination of skills as an opera singer and architect were reflected in her work. She believed that the two disciplines were interconnected and that music and architecture had the power to evoke emotion and create a sense of harmony. Her designs were known for their attention to detail and their ability to reflect the needs and desires of the people who would be using them.

Her contributions as a trailblazing woman in two male-dominated fields have inspired countless others to follow in her footsteps, and her innovative approach to blending art and design continues to be celebrated by architects and musicians alike. She was also responsible for the design of many other unique properties in the area, such as “Moorcrest,” which was previously owned by Charlie Chaplin, and “The Ternary.” Despite her significant contributions to the field, Hotchener’s work was largely unrecognized during her lifetime. However, in recent years, her legacy has been recognized, and her work is now celebrated as a pioneering contribution to the architecture of Hollywood.

The Andalusian-Spanish style of the building is evident in every detail of its five exclusive condos in this building, named the “Torre Del Moro.
