Last Minute Los Angeles Valentine’s Day Ideas That Are Not a Pricey Prix Fixe Dinner

It happens every year. Whether you’re single, coupled up, or going out for drinks with the girls, inevitably you keep pushing back on making the dinner reservation, perhaps due to the prevalence of pricey prix fixe menus or holding out hopes for a date and then suddenly Valentine’s Day has arrived and every restaurant in town seems to be booked. Fear not! I’ve compiled a list of Valentine’s Day ideas, parties, and film screenings all over town great for couples, groups, and singles alike. Happy Valentine’s Day!

Dance & Music at Union Station
Metro Art Los Angeles presents a special evening of kizomba for Valentine’s Day! A FREE kizomba lesson by Chris Kizomba will be followed by social dancing, accompanied by live music featuring Ricardo Lemvo y Makina Loca. Kizomba is both a dance and a style of music, which developed in Angola in the 1980s and 1990s. The dance derives strongly from zouk, a Caribbean Carnivalesque quick rhythm originating in the islands of Guadeloupe and Martinique, and which is reminiscent of reggaeton and Brazilian funk. Zouk, which means party or festival, drifted to Angola, where it mixed with traditional Angolan music and semba, the Angolan origin of Brazilian samba, resulting in kizomba.

Jazz at Angel City
Come join The Vignes Rooftop Revival for beer and tacos at Angel City Brewery. Live music from 730-930pm with food by Downtown Taco Co. and great beer brewed right here in the Arts District!

Codirected by Motown founder Berry Gordy. (1975, dir. Barry Gordy, Tony Richardson, Jack Wormser, 109 min.) A Q&A with Tisa Bryant and Ernest Hardy follows the screening.

Ace Hotel
