Must See in Los Angeles: Amanda Parer’s Monumental Public Art Installation Intrude in DTLA

Traveling all the way from New York, with a stop in Houston, the bunnies have arrived in downtown Los Angeles. They’ll be here until Saturday, June 11 and then they’re moving on to greener pastures in Denver, Colorado. Arts Brookfield presents a four-city national tour art installation Intrude, a highly acclaimed public art installation by Australian artist Amanda Parer.

For its national tour of Intrude, Arts Brookfield commissioned two giant rabbits, each scaling over two-stories in height, with one approximately 39 feet high and the other 39 feet long. These rabbits will join Intrude’s five original sculptures in three locations in downtown Los Angeles.

You will be able to see the installation at Bank of America Plaza (333 South Hope Street) and Wells Fargo Center (330 South Hope Street) on Bunker Hill; and FIGat7th (735 South Figueroa Street) in DTLA.

The artist, Tasmania resident Amanda Parer has long made ephemeral artworks that explore the natural and animal world and our own place in it.

Each of the bunnies are monumental sculptural rabbits, sewn in white nylon, inflated, and internally lit.

The artist has included some rules for the exhibit, including no: Kicking, punching, running up to, jumping on or into, lying on the rabbits. She does, however, encourage visitors to “treat them like you would treat real bunnies” with light touching, petting, little kisses, and gentle hugs. According to a description on the artists’s website Intrude is intended to highlight the role of Westerners in changing the native environment of Australia after they arrived.

And this Friday, June 10 you’ll be able to dance with the gigantic, glowing rabbits. The FIGat7th outdoor plaza is transformed into a quiet disco with three live DJs spinning all night long. With the flip of your headphone switch, you can groove to Hip-Hop Rabbit, EDM Bunny and Throwback Thumper. The first 100 guests get a free pair of LED flashing ‘80s shutter shades! Go early and stay late for great shopping, dining, and drinking! This event is FREE and open to the public but an RSVP is encouraged via this link.

But be sure to arrive before 9pm, or else you’ll be greeted by deflated bunnies.
