The Museum of Selfies (opens April 1) – Glendale
The Museum of Selfies is an interactive museum that explores the history and cultural phenomenon of the selfie – an image of oneself taken by oneself – with roots dating back 40,000 years. Visitors can explore the origin of the selfie through the lens of art, history, technology, and culture while taking some cool selfies of their very own with our interactive installations. The Museum of Selfies promises to share the unseen depths and history of this cultural phenomenon. Whether you love them or hate them, you won’t see selfies the same way again.

Dwell on Design: A Design & Architecture Convention (April 5-7) – Downtown
Dwell on Design, THE design fair on the west coast, gathers architects and designers with industry tastemakers for a sensory experience in Los Angeles. A magnet for architecture and design professionals working in residential, contract, and hospitality design, alongside design enthusiasts, the exhibition and conference features the best in modern furniture, lighting, accessories, kitchen and bath, home and office technology, outdoor, and design materials in a celebration of international design.

Autry Flavors Dinner Series: From Trail to Table (April 6) – Griffith Park
Strictly for meat eaters.” —Los Angeles Magazine
The cowboy on the cattle drive taking the herd to market is a classic image of the American West. But there’s a lot more to a cow than just a steak wrapped in leather, and a lot more to raising them than just putting them out on the range. Taste delicious and innovative twists on an American classic as you hear from the modern cowboys who raise cattle and the ranch chef for Meyer Natural Foods, supplier of natural grass-fed beef for this event, and experience the many ways that beef can be used in food, from unusual cuts of meat to suet crust pies. Tickets include plates from multiple food stations, access to the galleries and garden, and presentations by chefs and food history experts.

The Original Renaissance Pleasure Faire (kicks off April 7) – Pasadena
Begun in 1963 in Agoura, near Malibu, to create “living history” for school children and their families, the Original Renaissance Pleasure Faire has grown into an annual interactive playground and gallery for over 200,000 participants and guests. It has given birth to an industry nationwide and this year is more fun and exciting than ever.

Foodie Con 2018 (April 7-8) – Downtown
A ‘Comic-Con’ for Foodies! This two-day shopping and educational event will offer attendees the chance to meet culinary purveyors, purchase the newest food trends, and experience cuisines from hand-selected vendors including food artisans, cookware and gadgets, restaurants, local chefs, food trucks, craft breweries, wineries, and more. Foodie Con delivers everything your palate desires all under one roof and all in one fun-filled weekend!

10th Annual L.A. Beer Festival (April 7) – Downtown
The 10th annual LA Beer Festival follows last year’s sold out event, and this year’s promises to be even better. The event will feature dozens of international and domestic beers, over a dozen food trucks (food sold separately) as well as live entertainment. The 2018 LA Beer Festival will take place at LA Center Studios Studios from noon to 3pm and 5pm to 8pm. Admission is for only one session so make sure to coordinate with friends before buying your ticket. You GA tickets include unlimited beer tastings with food sold separately. Connoisseur’s Ticket ($80) are limited and offer attendees exclusive air conditioned bathrooms, an indoor/outdoor event deck overlooking the event featuring limited beers/one-offs not available to general admission.

20th Annual Film Noir Festival at the Egyptian Theatre (April 13 – 22) – Hollywood
The longest-running film noir festival in Los Angeles returns to the Egyptian Theatre with another incredible lineup of rarities, presented as they were meant to be seen – on the big screen! To celebrate the 20th anniversary of NOIR CITY: HOLLYWOOD, we delve deep into the archives to present a sizzling slate of sinister cinema – virtually all in glorious 35mm, including prints struck expressly for this series. Returning as hosts are Eddie Muller and Alan K. Rode, whose Film Noir Foundation will proudly present 10 consecutive nights of sinuous shadows, dangerous desires and bitter beauties brimming with broken dreams.

Victorian Tea & Fashion Show at Heritage Square Museum (April 14) – Mt. Washington
Legend has it that a Duchess was too hungry to wait for a late dinner so she began an afternoon custom of enjoying a selection of biscuits and cakes with her friends. Queen Victoria learned of this activity and also fell in love with the idea. By the late 1840’s the royal household was hosting daily tea parties which later became known as “afternoon tea”. Join Heritage Square Museum for a Victorian afternoon tea and fashion show as we present: First Ladies…of Fashion: First Ladies, whether they are American, French or English have always been fashion trend setters. We will showcase some of the more notable American First Ladies from Martha Washington to the most iconic and fashionable first Lady, Jackie Kennedy. First ladies of the fashion design world include fashion icons as Jeanne-Marie Lanvin and Coco Channel. Also included…the First Ladies of the stage and screen such as Lillian Russell, Sarah Bernhardt, Audrey Hepburn and Helen Hayes. The fashions included in this fabulous show will cover 300 years of fashion history.

The Great L.A. River Cleanup (April 14, 21, 28) – Frogtown
Great LA River Clean Up / La Gran Limpieza is back! The largest urban River cleanup in America starts April 2018. For 29 years, FoLAR and our fellow Angelenos have cleaned the Los Angeles River and protected our oceans from trash and refuse. In 2017 we mobilized 10,000 volunteers to remove 100 tons of trash. Help us make 2018 even bigger. Join the movement this Earth Month as we come together to restore habitat, protect nature, and build community through the power of collective action.

The March for Science (April 14) – Downtown
On April 22, 2017, over 50,000 Angelenos gathered in Pershing Square to celebrate the March for Science. It was an all-species event, with supporters of science both young, old and four-legged showing up to support the role of science in both our community and country at large. The crowd heard from speakers across different industries with one, clear refrain: we must value science, not silence. In the afternoon–despite 90 degree weather–thousands of participants enjoyed the science expo, where 25 exhibitors from academia, advocacy groups and educational programs had an opportunity to talk about their mission in our community.

David Hockney: 82 Portraits and 1 Still-life (opens April 15) – Mid-City
In 82 Portraits and 1 Still-life, David Hockney offers a vibrant and intimate view of people with whom he has developed relationships over the past 50 years. The majority of the portraits were painted in Hockney’s Los Angeles studio, all from life and over a period of two or three days, which the artist has described as “a 20-hour exposure.” None of Hockney’s portraits are commissioned; for this series he invited family, members of his staff, and close friends to sit for him—including several curators, art dealers, and collectors with local and international renown. John Baldessari, Douglas Baxter, Edith Devaney, Larry Gagosian, Frank Gehry, Peter Goulds, Barry Humphries, David Juda, Rita Pynoos, Joan Quinn, Norman Rosenthal, Jacob Rothschild, and Benedikt Taschen are among those portrayed, as well as LACMA’s Stephanie Barron and Dagny Corcoran. This exhibition originated at the Royal Academy of Arts in London, and has traveled to Melbourne, Venice, and Bilbao. LACMA will host the only United States presentation.

Earth Day L.A. 2018 (April 19) – Downtown
Grand Park joins The Music Center and the Los Angeles Department of Water & Power to celebrate Los Angeles’ largest earth day event. Earth Day L.A. offers Downtown L.A.’s residents, workers and visitors ideas and solutions on how to live clean and go green. This free, annual event features performances, tours, plant giveaways and demonstrations of the latest in green technology, which are all free to the public (and to a select number of school groups).

Record Store Day 2018 (April 21) – Los Angeles
Record Store Day was conceived in 2007 at a gathering of independent record store owners and employees as a way to celebrate and spread the word about the unique culture surrounding nearly 1400 independently owned record stores in the US and thousands of similar stores internationally. The first Record Store Day took place on April 19, 2008. Today there are Record Store Day participating stores on every continent except Antarctica.

Pop-Up Mini-Golf Course (April 21,22, 28, 29) – Little Tokyo
sit, learn, explore, and play in Little Tokyo’s 9-hole pop-up miniature golf course. Every hole is a vibrant artwork created by a local artist, which shares the past, present, and future of our 134-year old Japanese American community.

23rd Annual L.A. Times Festival of Books (April 21-22) – USC
It’s time again for the nation’s largest literary festival, the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books! The 23rd annual event, taking place April 21-22 at the University of Southern California, will feature more than 500 authors, celebrities, musicians, artists and chefs. On Friday, April 20, the 38th annual Book Prizes will honor pioneer of modern gay and Chicano literature, John Rechy, with the Robert Kirsch Award for lifetime achievement, and Glory Edim, founder of Well-Read Black Girl, with the Innovator’s Award, alongside 11 outstanding literary works published during the last year.

COLCOA Film Festival (April 23 – April 30) – Hollywood
A week of series and film premieres. The Oregon Wine Trail Comes to L.A. (April 24) – Koreatown
The Oregon Wine Board is hitting the trail with 50 Oregon wineries and our friends at Olympia Provisions, Salt & Straw Ice Cream and Stumptown Coffee Roasters for a grand happening of Oregonian wine, food and personality. No white table cloths, no orange cheese cubes. Instead, a generous pour of Oregon’s fine wines and pioneering spirit. You see, Oregon is a state, and a damn fine one. TCM Classic Film Festival (April 26 – 29) – Hollywood
Held over four days in the heart of Hollywood, the TCM Classic Film Festival is a place where movie lovers from around the world can gather to experience classic movies as they were meant to be experienced: on the big screen, in some of the world’s most iconic venues, with the people who made them. Moreover, the TCM Classic Film Festival strives to be a place where a community of movie fans of all ages can share their love of classic movies with each other, make new friends and see films as they are seldom seen today.

Our L.A. Voices: Arts Festival at Grand Park (April 27-29) – Downtown
Grand Park’s Our L.A. Voices – L.A. Arts Festival is a weekend-long arts gathering that focuses exclusively on the diverse and powerful artistic talent in Los Angeles County. Envisioned as an annual “best of L.A. arts festival,” this free, three-day performing and visual arts showcase will bring dance, music and theatre performances as well as visual artwork by L.A. artists to Grand Park every spring. Grand Park’s Our L.A. Voices will serve as a home for L.A. artists, underlining Grand Park’s commitment to L.A.’s creative communities.

Independent Bookstore Day (April 28) – All over!
Independent Bookstore Day is a one-day national party that takes place at indie bookstores across the country on the last Saturday in April. Every store is unique and independent, and every party is different. But in addition to authors, live music, cupcakes, scavenger hunts, kids events, art tables, readings, barbecues, contests, and other fun stuff, there are exclusive books and literary items that you can only get on that day. Not before. Not after. Not online.

Downtown Modernism (April 29) – Downtown
Los Angeles’s best marketplace for vintage modern design. Market Hours are from 8AM-2PM. Admission is $8. Every time the Downtown Modernism marketplace returns to the Modernica factory, it’s a little bit different. New dealers, new attractions, new food, and new faces, although, you can always expect to find over 80 vintage modern dealers from California and beyond.

Taste of the Eastside (April 29) – Cypress Park
Every spring since 2011, over 1000 people are drawn to Taste of the Eastside, a reference point in the Los Angeles food scene and a launch pad for new culinary ventures. Featuring established hotspots as well as buzz-worthy newbies, a crowd of trend-setting foodies descend upon the event to celebrate and take pride in their neighborhood eateries of Silver Lake, Echo Park, Eagle Rock, Highland Park, Los Feliz, Atwater, and beyond.
