I attended an open house when this house was for sale in 1985/86. Seems like it sold a couple of times during the early mid 80s…………I remember it being very unique and really built into the hillside on 3 levels. I had just moved to LA and was amazed at the engineering that was done in the 20 s when they built in such steep areas, so i was kind of overly wide eyed in awe…….I remember the large long living room with porches on either side, an oval/round dining room, etc. Kitchen on lower level, which I liked, as I think one reason half of adults in this country are overweight is our open concept kitchen family rooms with too easy access to the fridge. It had a cool 60 s era guest house down below the house and the pool was kind of precariously hanging on to the edge. For whatever reason this house stuck with me vividly for 30 some years. I think the Stanwyk association is somewhat untrue as I dont remember it at time I viewed it in the listing info. Finally the listing price in 85 was really out of this world unrealistic and it was on market a while. Also it was in need of rehab and it looks like it still needs work here and there.

Thanks for your comment! The home recently sold in 2016 to a former tenant who had actually rented the chauffeur’s quarters many years ago. The separate “Ballroom” house was built in the 20’s and there is a loft like unit with panoramic views just above it. The current tenants leased the main home and then later rented the other 2 units to create a true compound. It had been in the previous owners family for decades. We were thrilled they shared with us some of the home’s unique Hollywood History.
