Shock rocker Alice Cooper readies to give up his in-town retreat
Shock rock legend Alice Cooper has a duplex for sale in Echo Park at $1.299 million. No, this isn’t an investment property he happens to own — it’s a space he has used as a writer’s retreat when in town creating music for himself and the Hollywood Vampires. The two-unit house was built in 1927 and maintains its Spanish-style roots with arched windows and passages. The 2,027 square feet of interiors, however, look fresh and new with updated kitchens, bathrooms and light walls. The singer-songwriter-actor completely renovated the duplex when he bought it in 2006 for $700,000.

‘90210’ Star Jennie Garth Lists Home Above Studio City
Fast on the heels of reports that Jennie Garth, one of the stars of the cult favorite 1990s series “Beverly Hills, 90210,” and third husband, Dave Abrams, are headed for divorce court, she’s unsurprisingly listed her custom-renovated residence in L.A.’s less-renowned but still keenly sought-after 91604 zip code with an asking price pushing up on $4.5 million. The Studio City spread was purchased a bit more than five years ago for exactly $2 million; the trials and tribulations of a subsequent million-dollar renovation were shown on the 2014 HGTV series “The Jennie Garth Project.” Secured by remote-controlled gates and shielded from view by a high fence and even taller trees on almost an acre of hill-topping land, the stylishly charcoal-colored contemporary sprawls over about 4,100 square feet with five bedrooms and 4.5 bathrooms under a striking jumble of severely angled rooflines.

The three-story house, designed in contemporary Mediterranean style, has more than 8,600 square feet of interior, a home theater and multiple patios that create additional living space outside. On the home’s lower level, a lounge area features a U-shaped wet bar and windows that look directly into the bottom of the swimming pool.

Elizabeth Taylor’s Old Hollywood estate seeks $15.9M
Screen icon Elizabeth Taylor and then-husband Michael Wilding moved into this Beverly Crest home shortly after its construction in the early 1950s, when Taylor was at the height of her stardom. According to lore, Wilding and Taylor spotted a for-sale sign outside the house and decided to hop the fence for a look around. Later, it turned out that Westlake Village architect George MacLean had Taylor in mind when designing the lavishly appointed estate.

Joe Jonas lists picture-perfect farmhouse in Sherman Oaks for $4.25 million
Joe Jonas is moving on from his Sherman Oaks home of two years. The singer-actor of Jonas Brothers and DNCE fame has put the gated spot on the market for $4.25 million. Built in 2016, the two-story house presents as a Cape Cod-inspired contemporary in the farmhouse style. Modern touches include slabs of Calacatta marble, custom barn doors and accent walls lined in board-and-batten and tongue-and-groove siding. Black cabinetry and gold Waterworks fixtures create visual contrast in the chef’s kitchen.

Dennis Quaid and Ex-Wife Kimberly Buffington-Quaid List Pacific Palisades Home
Though they ended their tumultuous, on-again/off-again union almost two years ago, Dennis Quaid and Kimberly Buffington-Quaid only recently finalized their divorce and, hence, unsurprisingly, their beautifully restored and lavishly updated mini-mansion in Pacific Palisades, Calif., has come for sale with an asking price of $6.495 million.

Drew Barrymore quietly sells longtime Hollywood Hills home for $16.5 million
Actress Drew Barrymore has made a quiet move out of the Hollywood Hills, selling her longtime home in a deal completed outside the Multiple Listing Service. The sale price was $16.5 million, public records show. Set at the end of a long driveway, the gated compound centers on a sprawling Midcentury ranch house that dates to 1957. The acre-plus property also includes a guest house, a guard house and a motor court. A swimming pool and terraced gardens surround the home, which takes in city to ocean views.

Tom Petty’s Former Encino Mansion Comes Up for Sale
An Encino, Calif., mansion originally custom-built by late and legendary rock star Tom Petty has come up for sale at almost $5 million. The existing residence, a three-story timber-and-stone structure laced with intricate, geometric wrought-iron terrace railings, was custom built by Petty in the late 1980s after a heartbreaking 1987 arson fire destroyed everything but the three-time Grammy winner’s basement-level recording studio. Petty’s ex-wife, Jane Benyo, retained the property in their 1996 divorce but lost the house to foreclosure in 2015. The current owners, who have extensively updated and renovated the entire property, obtained it from the bank just over a year ago for almost $2.6 million. There are a total of six bedrooms and 10 bathrooms in almost 11,500 square feet.

Bassist and house flipper Tony Kanal buys Los Feliz fixer-upper
No Doubt bassist Tony Kanal has a remodeling project in the works. The sometimes house flipper picked up a Los Feliz Traditional through a limited liability company for $1.66 million. Built in 1935, the fixer-upper retains many original details, including an ornate portico, interior arches, hardwood floors and a wood-paneled den. There’s plenty to work from here.

Lance Bass Says He ‘Was Used’ to Drive Up Price of ‘Brady Bunch’ House
I’s no secret that real estate in Los Angeles can be a dirty business, but a deal-gone-wrong concerning the famous “Brady Bunch” house in Studio City has at least one celebrity seeing red. Lance Bass, the former member of boy band *NSYNC and a television and radio personality, says he was “used” by Douglas Elliman, the real estate firm representing the listing, to drive up the price of the house. This following his claim that an “over-asking” offer he made was accepted.

Billy Bob Thornton Takes a Hit on Malibu Home Sale
Billy Bob Thornton may have won an Oscar as screenwriter for the 1996 film “Sling Blade,” but that won’t help him recoup the quarter of a million dollars he lost on the $2.1 million sale of a modestly sized if hardly inexpensive house above Malibu’s Point Dume he bought just over a decade ago for $2.35 million. And that’s not counting carrying costs, improvement expenses and real estate fees. One of eight similarly sized but architecturally diverse houses on a gated cul-de-sac, the not quite 2,700-square-foot, smooth-stucco contemporary contains four bedrooms and three bathrooms.
