Last week, we had the opportunity to taste over 100 different Bordeaux wines! Affordable Bordeaux? Yes, it does exist! On Tuesday, June 7 Bordeaux Under One Roof returned to its sister city: Los Angeles and The Hollywood Home was delighted to attend!
At first I felt somewhat disappointed that they had opted to switch from last year’s venue, the W Hotel in the heart of Hollywood near my own home. However, the Hudson Lofts in Downtown Los Angeles turned out to be a first class venue in an ideal location, the crossroads of LA.
Easy access to the Expo line made it convenient for West side wine enthusiasts as well as those coming from Hollywood, the Valley, and afar. There was, always thankfully, free parking in a nearby lot as well as plenty of metered spots on the street for those crazy enough to drive and not Uber or go Metro.
I was among the first to arrive as the event planners were still busy in the final stages of setting up. Check in was a breeze. I grabbed a wine glass and entered into the expansive tasting area.
The room was set up in three main sections: Authenticity, Diversity, and Innovation.
I was partial to some of the selections from the Authenticity table.
Highlights included the 2011 Promesse Chateau Soleil Promesse Puisseguin, Saint-Emilion. It was full bodied with abundant anise, dark chocolate, and black cherry. A good solid wine.
The 2012 Chateau de Cruzeau, Pessac-Leognan, An aromatic wine, it had a rounded texture, a spicy character and only light acidity. Very forward and fruity.
The 2011 Chateau de Pez, St Estephe. Texture and substance. This wine combines intensity with a firm structure and pokey acidity.
The Innovation area offered all organic wines.
My favorite appetizer was the hand passed seared sesame ahi tuna encrusted in black & white sesame seeds, topped with a dollop of wasabi cream on a crispy wonton. Melt in your mouth, delicious!
I also really enjoyed the sautéed shishito peppers until I accidentally bit into a really hot one!
I extinguished the fire with more wine.
Also being served were prosciutto crostini layered with fig preserves, poached pear with a mint and balsamic drizzle, blue cheese crostini and decadent cream puffs with almonds.
All of the food was designed to pair with wines being served.
The event also offered a blind tasting: 3 wines in paper bags. Taste all three and then pick: which is round and structured, powerful and intense and supple & fruity. I won a $25 gift card to wine.com. Nice! This will go to good use!
There was a very fun photo booth with props, a social media lounge, great music and even a surprise dance show!
Amazing wine, food, and entertainment!
I departed with a souvenir “Bordeaux under one Roof” tote bag, a $25 gift card to wine.com, a silly polaroid photo from the photo booth, many new wine enthusiast friends and great memories!
Thanks Bordeaux Under One Roof for inviting the Hollywood Home to your wonderful event! A great time was had by all! Can’t wait for next year!
