The Best 4th of July Events in Los Angeles 2019

The best part about most of these 4th of July events? You can end the evening with a bang of dazzling fireworks in the night sky. There’s no shortage of ways to celebrate the birthday of America. Whether you’re looking for a festive parade or some great music while watching a pyrotechnics display, you’re sure to find something in this California city to enjoy. Or, if we finally find our way out of June Gloom this July 4th, why not spend a patriotic day at the beach?

July 4th Fireworks Spectacular with Nile Rodgers and CHIC
Hollywood Bowl
2301 N. Highland Ave., Los Angeles, CA 90068
Celebrate the 4th of July at the Hollywood Bowl. Nile Rodgers and CHIC, along with the LA Phil, will be performing at 7:30 pm (as well as on July 2nd and 3rd). Tickets are available online, and half-off tickets are being offered for kids 12 and under. 

Pacific Palisades Fourth of July Parade
Palisades Charter High School, Pacific Palisades
Starting just before 2pm, a band of patriotic skydivers will descend from the skies, kicking off the neighborhood’s colossal parade. The baton twirlers and marching trombonists will begin their promenade on Sunset Boulevard, between Via de la Paz and Drummond. General admission to the parade is free, VIP grandstand seating is available for purchase. The festivities continue with a concert (4pm) and fireworks (9pm).

Americafest at the Rose Bowl

The 93rd annual Fourth of July celebration at the Rose Bowl offers an all day 4th of July party, ending with one of the largest firework displays in Southern California. Music, food, and games for the kids will be happening outside of the stadium. Parking lots open at 12:00 pm, Family Fun Zone opens at 2:00 pm, doors open at 5:30 pm, performances begin at 7:00 pm, and fireworks begin at 9:00 pm. Tickets are available online (general Admission is $15, children 5 and under are Free. Parking is $30 on event day; $20 if pre-purchased).

Fourth of July Block Party
Grand Park, Downtown
Grand Park is the site of what is described as the “country’s largest free July 4th celebration. This Fourth of July, Grand Park hosts a unique block party, featuring scrumptious food truck fare, live music and more. The music begins while the sun is still high in the sky, so bring yourself an all-day picnic—no booze allowed, just FYI – and relax. Best of all, the event is Metro accessible and dogs are allowed. Fireworks begin at 9:00 pm.

July 4th at the Marina 
Burton Chace Park

Families can celebrate 4th of July by the water in Marina del Rey. Make a day of it, enjoy picnics and walks, and then stay for the incredible fireworks show. Fireworks begin at 9:00 pm and last about 20 minutes. Check the website for parking information.

Cinespia Presents E.T. + Fireworks
Hollywood Forever Cemetery

Enjoy the Steven Spielberg classic film E.T. with a special showing on the 4th of July at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery. Families will also be treated to a fireworks show! Pack a picnic or take advantage of the concession stands on-site. Gates open at 7:15 pm. Tickets are available online. 

All-American 4th of July on the Queen Mary
Queen Mary, Long Beach
Watch the Long Beach fireworks from aboard the Queen Mary, where you’ll be able to scope out concerts, family-friendly activities alongside patriotic-themed events. The evening includes live entertainment, historic tours and a patriotic film screening.

Anime Expo
Los Angeles Convention Center, Downtown

Looking for something indoors this July 4th? The Anime Expo takes over the Los Angeles Convention Center for four days of panels, special events and plenty of cosplay. Thousands of fans come to celebrate the quirky art and culture of anime as figureheads and stars of the industry visit to speak and sign autographs.

4th of July at Dodger Stadium
Dodger Stadium hosts fireworks on Friday nights throughout the season, but they go all out on the 4th of July. Buy tickets to see the team take on the San Diego Padres (on either the 4th or the 5th) and then stick around for a fireworks show you can see from your seat.

Independence Day at Universal Studios
Universal Studios Hollywood & Universal CityWalk, Universal City
The storied movie studio and theme park fires off its first-ever Fourth of July pyro extravaganza with fireworks synchronized to both Universal-themed music and patriotic standards. The show begins at 9:30pm.

4th of July Fireworks in Ojai

Start your weekend early and enjoy the 4th of July in Ojai with “the best small town parade and fireworks show.” Enjoy a live band, food trucks, jumpers, and more. This all-day event begins at 7:00 am and continues until 9:00 pm with fireworks! Tickets are available online.

July Fourth Late Night BBQ at Aquarium of the Pacific
Aquarium of the Pacific, Long Beach
Celebrate Independence Day with the kids, a plate of barbecue and your best under-the-sea buddies. The Aquarium of the Pacific hosts a Fourth of July BBQ, in addition to late-night aquarium access and a magnificent view of the waterfront fireworks show. Reserve tickets online for the cookout, which will feature classic summer treats like coal slaw and hot dogs, in addition to fancier fare, including brisket and s’mores bars. A kid-friendly menu is also available for the little rascals in your posse. The aquarium is open all day, but discounted admission starts at 5pm.

An American Celebration Fireworks Spectacular
Starlight Bowl

Enjoy a performance by Big Bad Voodoo Daddy at the Starlight Bowl. Parking opens at 4:30 pm, gates open at 5:30 pm, and the concert begins at 6:30 pm. Buy your tickets early to ensure good seats for the musical show as well as the fireworks!

July 4th Extravaganza
Warner Ranch Park
5800 Topanga Canyon Blvd., Woodland Hills, CA 91367
Councilman Bob Blumenfield’s July 4th Fireworks Extravaganza is happening from 6:00 pm to 9:30 pm. Enjoy a free concert and 15-minute fireworks display. Local restaurants and arts and crafts vendors will be selling their goods as well. The event is free, and parking fees serve as a donation to the Valley Cultural Foundation.

4th of July at Descanso Bay Beach Club on Catalina Island
Experience the sights, sounds and flavors of Catalina Island. The celebration begins at 6pm with a BBQ buffet at Descanso Beach Club, home of Avalon’s only beachside restaurant and bar and one of the few places in SoCal where you can legally have a drink in your hand and your feet in the sand. The USC Marching Band and Song Girls will be performing at 8pm, followed by Catalina’s fireworks spectacular over Avalon Bay. Then it’s dancing under the stars until 11pm. Kick your celebration up a notch with a beachfront cabana, or chaise lounges. Available in limited quantities from 6:00 – 9:30pm. Call 877.778.8322 for reservations.

Fourth of July Community Festival & Fireworks Show
Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, Los Angeles
Unfurl a picnic blanket on the South Lawn of Exposition Park, just next to the Coliseum, and enjoy an afternoon of music, games and kid-friendly activities, followed by a free fireworks show at 9pm.

Kaboom! Fourth of July Fireworks Spectacular
Fairplex, Pomona
What’s more American than spending your 4th of July around a bunch of monster trucks? That’s the idea behind Kaboom, an annual celebration at the Fairplex that features a monster truck derby, big-air motocross show and even a human cannonball demonstration, followed by a fireworks spectacular.

4th of July at Disneyland

Celebrate our nation’s birthday at the “happiest place on Earth.” Enjoy an “inspirational fireworks show – all to the sound of patriotic music.” Spend the day at Disneyland and then enjoy a magical fireworks show in the evening.

Huntington Beach Fourth of July Celebration

Make your Fourth of July an all-day blowout by heading down to this legendary, long-running fest at the Huntington Beach Pier. The festivities kick off with a 5K run and fitness expo. Walk the parade route to the beach from 10am til noon, and then put on your Uncle Sam hat for the Pier Plaza Festival, where you’ll find live entertainment, family activities and all-American eats. Scope out a spot or grab a VIP seat for the fireworks display at 9pm, which ends in an epic 500-round finale.

The city of Monterey Park is celebrating the 4th of July from 2:30 pm to 9:30 pm. This free community event features live entertainment, food, and fun for the whole family. Festivities begin at 2:30 pm, live entertainment begins at 5:00 pm, and the free fireworks show begins at 9:00 pm. At this special event, “the Monterey Park City Council also recognizes local military families and new U.S. citizens.” 

4th of July Fireworks at Seaside Lagoon
200 Portofino Way, Redondo Beach, CA
Celebrate the 4th of July in Redondo Beach with a community celebration featuring live music, food and beverage booths, activities for kids, and a fireworks show. 

Mr. & Mrs. Muscle Beach
Venice Beach
Each year, the famous “Muscle Beach” area of Venice Beach along Ocean Front Walk hosts its annual body-building pageant on the beach. This year, the event returns to the Venice Beach Recreation Center from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Competitors will be judged on a variety of categories including bodybuilding, bikini, figure, men’s physique, classic physique, women’s physique, vintage, and couples. Initial judging will take place at 10 a.m. and the final round will be judged at 1 p.m. The competition is open to all amateurs for a $100 entry fee, but it is free to watch.
