2763 Outpost Drive was built in 1940 during the second phase of construction of homes in Outpost Estates. Though nearly fifteen years had passed since the area’s original homes were built, pre-and-post World War II homes in Outpost were still required to match the aesthetic of the 1920s homes, which were built specifically for the Golden Era of Hollywood’s movie stars and studio executives.

In the 1920s, in the hills above the development, a large sign spelled out “Outpost” in red neon letters 30 feet high. It was intended to compete with the Hollywoodland sign. At the time, it was the largest neon sign in the United States.

With its red tile roof, multiple patios for outdoor living, the home was approved by architectural committee before construction and remains perfectly intact.

The spacious and welcoming entry leads to a dramatic step-down living room with a superb tiled fireplace, magnificent chandelier, hardwood floors, and several large windows that provide plenty of light throughout the day.

The formal dining dining room has outdoor access to the patio through a pair of French doors.

The Spanish-tiled patio offers an excellent space for al fresco entertaining. In the first half of the century, “outdoor living” was still considered a rare and exotic attribute for homes in Southern California. As the concept grew more and more popular neighborhood committee’s like the early Outpost Estates Neighborhood Association began to require outdoor spaces in architectural plans.

2763’s great entertainer’s patio also includes a lovely water feature and is just one of several outdoor entertaining and lounging spaces on the property.

Back inside, the eat-in kitchen is vintage-inspired with modern upgrades like including a Viking Range and stainless steel appliances. There is also a dedicated laundry/mudroom.

Many Spanish design accents are found throughout the home, including arched entryways and white plaster walls.

The master bedroom is generously spacious and light-filled.

The stylish period baths are fancifully charming with colorful tiles and an ample amount of storage.

The second bedroom has a unique light fixture and more of the home’s gorgeous hardwood floors.

The home’s second bath is just as charming as the first and has a vintage soaking tub.

The home’s third and final bedroom is a calming and serene retreat with plenty of space to maximize as you see fit.

The backyard is a remarkably private and incredibly unique oasis with Moroccan inspired terraces, meandering pathways, and patios.

The property also has a two car direct access garage plus additional storage.

2763 Outpost Drive has a long ownership history of innovators and artists including a structural engineer and founder of the Masonry Society and who was instrumental in developing new criteria for seismic design in California, a well known architect and a sought after interior designer, and is rumored to be the temporary home of actress Jane Seymour, known for her roles in the James Bond film Live and Let Die, Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman, and, more recently, Wedding Crashers.

In 1997, the property was purchased by Ron Pomerantz, the Executive Creative Director of the Disney Channel, whose credits include High School Musical, Hannah Montana, Girl Meets World, Phineas And Ferb, among others. Read the full history of the home here.

Enjoy the outstanding comforts of home or head for the hills to seek solace in nature, tranquility, fresh air and hiking at nearby Runyon Canyon, the absolute best neighbor one could ask for.
